Micellar Water: Worth the hype?

In recent months, I’ve been seeing a new product on the shelves that promises to remove all of your makeup with just one swipe of a cotton pad. Micellar water. It seriously does look like water in a bottle, but give it a shake and you’ll see that it’s much more than that. It’s hard to believe that this product can really clean your skin, especially in a world contouring, bronzing, highlighting, brows and waterproof mascara.

So I decided to try out Garnier’s two different Micellar waters that are currently in stores:

The first one I purchased was the Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water: I bought this one, unaware that another option existed at the time. I was impressed at how much of my makeup came off just from going over my face with one cotton pad but I did use another pad to get even more off.

Now although the bottle says no need to rinse off and it did seem as if my face was free of makeup, I still felt that I needed to use my Olay spinbrush with my usual face cleanser to be absolutely sure. This one is definitely not for waterproof makeup. My mascara didn’t budge. Props to the waterproof mascara, but I do need it to come off at some point, hence, the need to make another trip to the store.

On my second trip, I picked up the Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water (for waterproof makeup): Pretty much the same result, except that when you put the Micellar Water on a cotton pad and hold it on your eyes for a few seconds, that waterproof mascara along with everything else just melts away.

Although I did need to go over my face a couple of times with it, I would still recommend these products. If you don’t wear waterproof makeup then the bottle with the pink cap will suite you just fine. I wear waterproof because it’s either allergies or a case of laughing a little too hard that causes my eyes to water and I’d rather not look like a racoon by the day’s end.

All in all, I appreciate this product because it gets off the majority of the makeup and even though still use my usual cleanser after, I end up using less of that cleanser and if I can save on that, then I’m happy.  And at about $7, it’s a good price especially if you’re trying it for the first time but I’ll definitely keep this as a part of my skincare routine.

Hope you all are having a great day.
